Important Usage Precautions and Carton Specifications for Automatic Case Packers

Automatic case packers are deployed across many industries. Before putting the machine into formal operation, operators need to master critical usage notes, especially the technical specifications for incoming carton blanks, to avoid production failures during automated packing.

Wide Application Scope of Automatic Case Packers

Automatic case packers have a broad application range covering many different industrial sectors. This automated equipment folds flat cardboard blanks into finished cartons or trays, loads pre-packed finished products inside, and then completes carton sealing. The whole machine mainly consists of six functional modules: carton erecting, layer grouping, outer packaging unit, automatic control system, electric control cabinet, and LCD human-machine control display.

Key Carton Creasing and Slotting Accuracy Requirements

Automatic case packers set high standards for carton creasing and paper-folding quality. The machine relies heavily on vacuum suction cups for carton handling; its stop levers and clamping levers work cooperatively without extra shape-correction function. Therefore, the incoming carton blanks themselves must be well-manufactured. Embossed crease lines should be sharp and clear. Cartons must fold smoothly without broken lines or cracked corner marks during forming. The positional tolerance for slotting and creasing should be controlled within 2 mm.

Limitation on Carton-Corner Hole Size for Ocean Shipment

Special attention should be paid to the hole dimension at carton corners. Over-sized corner holes weaken the moisture-proof performance of shipping cartons. Most export goods are transported in sea-going containers, where ambient relative humidity can reach up to 93 % during ocean transit. If corner holes are too large, internal goods are exposed to dampness easily. For fully-enclosed automatic packing cartons, the recommended maximum diameter for corner holes is 5 mm. Carton sealing generally adopts adhesive tape as the main sealing method.

Cardboard Surface Performance & Tape-Adhesion Test

The cardboard surface needs good sealing performance for tape sealing. A practical tape-tearing test can verify whether the cardboard is suitable for tape-sealing work. Take a piece of moderately-viscous transparent adhesive tape, firmly stick it onto the cardboard surface then peel it off. If surface fiber tearing occurs on the cardboard after peeling, this carton material works well for tape sealing. If the tape separates cleanly without any tearing of the paper surface, the cardboard is not qualified for tape-sealing operations.

Flatness and Bending-Resistance Requirements for Vacuum Suction

The cardboard surface should maintain proper roughness and excellent flatness. Badly warped cardboard will cause vacuum suction cups to accidentally pick-up multiple carton blanks at one time. After die-cutting, the cardboard must keep high flatness. Meanwhile, the crease positions should provide sufficient bending-friction resistance to guarantee stable folding performance throughout the automatic case-erecting workflow.
